These are what I call invisible frames, and the paintings are actually suspended or they look like these panels are actually suspended off of the walls because the frames are recessed and you can’t see them anywhere. So I guess it was a way of dealing with hanging these works in a kind of suspended way, in a similar way that the colour in many of them feels suspended and is almost hovering off of the surface. The action of the colour is hovering off of the surface of the painting. I wanted the paintings to be hung in a way that spoke to how I was painting them and another artist friend of mine came in and suggested I try this kind of a frame out, and I am forever in her debt because I think it really does complement the way that they are being painted.
